Once upon a time, there was a region known as Rajputana. This land was called princely states, each with its own ruler and glory. The story of Rajasthan's foundation day is a tale of unity and the creation of a state that became synonymous with cultural richness and historical significance.

The year was 1949, a time when India had just gained independence from British rule. The leaders of the princely states of Rajputana were faced with a monumental decision: to continue as fragmented territories or to unite and form a larger, more formidable state within the newly free India. After thoughtful deliberation and negotiations, the states of Jodhpur, Jaipur, Bikaner, and Jaisalmer decided to merge with the United States of Rajasthan.

On the 30th of March, 1949, these states joined hands, and Rajasthan, as we know it today, was born¹. The name 'Rajasthan' itself means 'the abode of the Rajas,' reflecting the region's royal heritage. The unification was a significant event that brought together diverse cultures, languages, and traditions under one banner, forming a state that boasted the largest area in India.

The foundation day of Rajasthan is not just a date on the calendar; it's a celebration of the spirit of unity and the strength that comes from it. It's a day when the people of Rajasthan pay homage to their history, their heroes, and their rich cultural legacy. The state's features include the ruins of the Indus Valley Civilization, majestic temples, and fortresses that stand as a testament to its glorious past

As the sun sets on the foundation day, the forts are lit up, and the air is filled with the melodies of folk music, the people of Rajasthan remember the journey of their state—a journey that started with the valour of the Rajputs and continues to this day, as a vibrant and thriving part of India.

And so, every year on March 30th, the people of Rajasthan celebrate their foundation day, remembering the day when their land, once known as Rajputana, became the magnificent state of Rajasthan.
